Bee, a San Francisco–based company developing an AI-powered wearable, is slated to be acquired by Amazon, according to the co-founder’s LinkedIn announcement on Tuesday. The startup’s solution is worn on a person’s wrist and constantly records in the background, enabling the wearer to glean personal insights, summaries and reminders based on their patterns, preferences and conversations.
While it is currently unclear how Bee’s product will be integrated into Amazon’s offerings, the move comes amid increased AI investments from the e-commerce giant. The company has continually introduced various AI products. Alongside its ever-growing AI assistant Alexa, Amazon’s more recent releases include Nova, a set of foundational models designed to help shoppers better understand videos, charts and documents; a mapping solution called Wellspring intended to enhance package delivery; and for enterprise customers, AWS Trainium chips to enable generative AI training at lower costs.
Terms of the deal have not been announced, but Amazon has confirmed its intent to acquire the startup, according to reporting from various outlets. Additionally, the members of Bee’s small but mighty team have received offers to join Amazon’s ranks.
